NAVBuilder® Inside NAVBuilder® Inside (NBI) is a cross-carrier, cross-platform solution that provides developers and OEMs tools for building fast and interactive mobile LBS applications. NBI consists of two APIs (MapKit and LocationKit) that incorporate mapping, location, and search features for third-party applications to use on the Android, BlackBerry, BREW and iOS for iPhone device platforms.  MapKit provides an embeddable map interface for applications. The framework can be used to annotate maps with points of interest and other custom information, and supports the device's native gestures with minimum developer effort. MapKit also provides geocoding and reverse geocoding services, support for custom layers, a comprehensive set of local search APIs, and the ability to integrate deals/coupons.
 LocationKit allows users to get a single position or a continuous stream of positions to determine the current latitude and longitude of a device. The framework uses the available hardware and the TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) NAVBuilder server to provide a location using Standalone GPS, Wi-Fi or Cell D based positioning. The LocationKit also collects Wi-Fi probes to incrementally build the Wi-Fi database used for positioning when a GPS signal is not found.
NBI works by leveraging the client-server architecture built by TCS to support Verizon's VZ Navigator, providing the best of both worlds: immediate processing on the client and vast amounts of data and processing power on the server. The client implements all map drawing logic as well as data collection for positioning, query submission and results, while using the server to obtain up-to-date local search, maps, directions, and traffic data. For navigation, NBI leverages VZ Navigator through the App2App interface, providing a simplified API that verifies availability and correctly builds the query URL.
