Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI),
an independent, non-profit organization whose
mission is to produce telecommunications standards for today and for the future. ETSI unites 655 members from 59 countries inside and 
outside of Europe, and plays a major role in developing a wide range of standards and other technical documentation as Europe's contribution to worldwide information and communication technologies (ICTs) standardization.

TCS is an associate member of the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) Association. Member status allows TCS to actively participate
in the development and advancement of GSM and 3G wireless technologies. TCS' products support GSM, CDMA, and TDMA technologies, and are deployed in some GSM member networks. The
GSM Association has more than 500 industry members in 161 countries and is responsible for the development, deployment, and evolution of the GSM standard for digital wireless communications.

As a member of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), TCS networks with an international community of designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet.  

The mission of the IETF is to produce high-quality technical and engineering documents that influence the way people design, use, and manage the Internet in such a way as to make the Internet work better. These documents include protocol standards, best current practices, and information documents of various kinds.

Network Reliability and Interoperability
Council VII (NRIC VII)

The Network Reliability and Interoperability Council VII (NRIC VII) partners with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the communications industry, and public safety to facilitate the enhancement of emergency communications networks, homeland security, and best practices across the burgeoning telecommunications industry.

The purpose of the Council is to provide recommendations to the FCC and to the communications industry that assures optimal reliability and interoperability of wireless, wireline, satellite, cable, and public data networks. The scope of this activity also encompasses recommendations that ensures the security and sustainability of communications networks throughout the United States; ensures the availability of adequate communications capacity during events or periods of exceptional stress due to natural disaster, terrorist attacks, or similar occurrences; and facilitates the rapid restoration of telecommunications services in the event of widespread or major disruptions in the provision of communications services.

The Open Mobile Alliance's (OMA) mission is to facilitate global user adoption of mobile data services by specifying market-driven mobile service enablers that ensure service interoperability across devices, geographies, service providers, operators, and networks, while allowing businesses to compete through innovation and differentiation.

As a full member of OMA, TCS is helping standardize interfaces for third-party application developers and is assisting in defining parameters for interoperability and testing of location services. TCS also is working with OMA to develop global interoperability standards among mobile positioning systems and advance initiatives to protect the privacy and security of consumer location data.

Support 911 Funding

In 2006, Timothy J. Lorello, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, TeleCommunication Systems, was elected to the E9-1-1 Institute's Board of Directors. In addition, he co-chairs the Institute's Internet Protocol Issues Committee (IPIC) and participates on numerous panels in support of the Institute's goal of educating the U.S. Congress and its staff concerning important E9-1-1 issues. His active participation in NENA and APCO further supports and promulgates the nationwide use of E9-1-1 through numerous support initiatives.
